It’s kinda sad but technology has made us move along from good old-fashioned paper charts. I loved navigating on them, drawing lines, measuring distances, computing headings. Alas, the Government office that is in charge of this nostalgic way of seafaring navigation has decided to replace all the charts with Electronic Navigation Charts, ENC’s. They are pretty slick and offer far more information than can be printed on paper. ENC’s are updated weekly whereas paper is only as fresh as the day it was printed. I will continue to teach map reading with paper charts as I feel it is a worthwhile skill should all electronics fail, plus it serves as a great foundation for learning Electronic Charting Systems, ECS.
I have used this chart for years of teaching Sailing and Powerboating on the Potomac River, in the Washington DC waters. This last version was printed in 2022.
