Knot tying

Knots are an imperative skill to have on the water. These videos just scratch the surface of available knots but should be sufficient to get you through all levels of basic and advanced boating

Practice makes perfect, try them with your eyes closed!

Ropes or lines?

What we call on land a rope is now called a line on a boat. If that line has a specific use, like hauling the sail up it will have a name- The Halyard was the named after ‘hauling the yards’. A Sheet controls the sail angles and became known as such when the sails materials used to be old sheets.

Lines are constructed by either coiling them or braiding them. It’s important to distinguish the two when coiling a line for storage. Check out the video on that.
